Miyu Yamashita Earns Fifth LPGA Tour Title with Win in Malaysia

Miyu Yamashita continued her dominant run on the LPGA Tour, defending her title at the Maybank Championship with a final-round 4-under 68 to finish at 22-under 266.

Yamashita recorded rounds of 65, 66, 67, and 68 to defeat runner-up Yan Liu by two strokes, improving her 72-hole score from her 2025 win by four strokes. The victory marks her third title of the 2026 season, following wins at the Meijer LPGA Classic and the CPKC Women’s Open, and the first successful title defense of her career.

The Japanese standout delivered a ball-striking masterclass in Sunday's final round, hitting 12 of 14 fairways and 17 of 18 greens in regulation while using 31 putts. With the win, Yamashita became the first player to defend a title at the Maybank Championship.

The victory also established several career milestones. Yamashita became the fastest Japanese player to reach five LPGA Tour wins, achieving the mark in just 45 starts. She also became the fastest Japanese player to surpass $3 million in single-season official earnings. Furthermore, she joined Jeeno Thitikul as only the second player in LPGA Tour history to earn more than $3 million in back-to-back seasons.

The 2025 Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year winner has now compiled 13 top-10 finishes in 21 starts this season. Yamashita previously represented Japan at the 2024 Paris Olympics, finishing tied for fourth, and competed in the 2026 Hanwha PLUS International Crown.
