Marcus Helligkilde and Jose Luis Ballester share a two-stroke lead on 19 under par after the third round of DP World Tour Final Stage Qualifying School at INFINITUM.
Helligkilde, playing on the Hills course in Salou, posted an eight under par 64, while Ballester produced an impressive back nine over the same layout to sign for 66.
The Dane spent four years on the DP World Tour after winning the HotelPlanner Tour’s Road to Mallorca Rankings in 2021 and returned to the professional scene in May, having missed the entirety of the 2025 campaign suffering from a pinched nerve in his spine.
He appears to be edging towards his best, however, with a blemish-free effort at INFINITUM seeing him reach 19 under par at the halfway point of Final Stage Qualifying School, with the leading 15 players and ties earning DP World Tour playing rights for the 2027 season.
Starting on the tenth, the 30-year-old notched his first birdie of the day on the par five 11th before making three consecutive pars. Helligkilde would find his groove quickly after, with a hat trick of gains from the 15th helping him turn at four under for the day. Pars on the first and second were then followed by four birdies in a row from the third to help him home in 32 strokes.
After finishing the 2026 season 139th on the Race to Dubai Rankings powered by DP World, Helligkilde is eager to retain a committed attitude with 54 holes remaining of the Final Stage marathon as he seeks to quickly regain playing privileges on golf’s global Tour.
"My mindset has been getting better and I’m happy to be able to play pain free," said Helligkilde.
"I’m just happy to play golf and try to do my best. I’ve been playing a lot of golf here at INFINITUM because of the Nordic Golf League and I love the changes they’ve made to the Hills course, it’s great."
Ballester, starting on the tenth, began the day one stroke adrift following rounds of 66-64 on the Hills and Lakes respectively, and found his stride with birdies on his opening two holes. He would run into trouble around the turn, however, with bogeys on the 14th and 18th coming either side of his third birdie of the day on the 16th.
The Spaniard responded after making the turn, however, with a birdie on the third moving him to two under par for the day. The 23-year-old would further show his credentials with four birdies in a row from the fifth vaulting him alongside Helligkilde.
Ballester, an automatic qualifier for Final Stage, has teed it up eight times on the 2026 Race to Dubai and is eager to take advantage of the lower scoring Lakes course for the remainder of the Q School marathon.
"Today was the first day that some friends came by and it's always great to see some familiar faces running for you," he said.
"It's funny. I feel like I need to work a little bit on playing in front of people that I consider my friends or people that I care about.
"So sometimes when I played in front of a bunch of people that I don’t know, I'm a little more loose. But I was happy with how I closed the back nine, feeling pretty confident and comfortable with my golf swing and putting. Hills course out the way now, over to the Lakes for the rest of the week.
"I’ll keep the foot on the pedal and keep it going tomorrow."
Behind the leaders, Australian Jack Buchanan holds solo third on 17 under par, one shot clear of his countryman Cameron John, Swede Albin Bergstrom, Spain’s Pablo Larrazábal and Slovakian Tadeáš Tetak.
With no redraw before the 72-hole cut, the fourth round of DP World Tour Final Stage Qualifying School gets under way at 9:00am local time, with Helligkilde teeing off at 9:25am and Ballester at 9:55am, both on the Lakes Course.
