Malaysia welcomes the return of the LPGA Tour for the fourth edition of the Maybank Championship. This year, 78 players will compete in the 72-hoe, no-cut tournament for a purse of $3 mil. Here’s a closer look at the groups to watch on day one at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club.
Thursday, 8:54 a.m., 1st tee - Patty Tavatanakit, Anna Huang, Lydia Ko
Tavatankit returns to Malaysia where she has teed it up the past three seasons, but remains in search of her first top-30 finish. Tavatanakit skipped last week’s Tour stop in Korea and made her last start at the Buick LPGA Shanghai where she was tied for 31st for the week. Huang received a sponsor invite to compete this week in Kuala Lumpur. Already a two-time winner this season on the Ladies European Tour, Huang sits at No. 2 in the Order of Merit and was in contention earlier this season on the LPGA Tour when she was tied for fourth at the CPKC Women’s Open. This week, Ko makes her third appearance in Malaysia where she was tied for ninth last season. Ko is making her first start since the LOTTE Championship presented by Hoakalei where she missed her second consecutive cut on Tour.
Thursday, 9:05 a.m., 1st tee - Haeran Ryu, Hannah Green, Esther Henseleit
Ryu is coming off a runner-up finish on Sunday at the BMW Ladies Championship and returning to a course in Malaysia where she’s also had success with a third-place finish in 2024. Green was also nearly a winner in Malaysia, losing on the first playoff hole to Miyu Yamashita in 2025. Green has consistently played well in Kuala Lumpur where she was tied for sixth in 2024 and tied for 17th in 2023. Henseleit rounds out this group as she is looking to pick up her fifth top 10 finish of the season. Henseleit was tied for 23rd on Sunday at the BMW Ladies Championship.
Thursday, 9:16 a.m., 1st tee - Ruoning Yin, Celine Boutier, Miyu Yamashita
A trio of winners in Malaysia will tee it up together for the opening round of this year’s championship. Yin is already a two-time winner this season on the LPGA Tour with victories in back-to-back starts at the FM Championship and Buick LPGA Shanghai. Yin was also a winner in Malaysia in 2024 and she managed to follow up that title defense with an impressive 12th place finish in 2025. Boutier, a winner of the Maybank Championship in 2023, has never finished worse than a tie for 16th in her three prior appearances in Malaysia. The Frenchwoman was tied for 55th on Sunday at the BMW Ladies Championship. Yamashita will seek to defend her title and pick up her third victory of the season on the LPGA Tour. The defending champion has enjoyed a stellar second half of the season. Since June, Yamashita has racked up five top 10s and two victories on Tour.
Thursday, 9:27 a.m., 1st tee - Charley Hull, Yuri Yoshida, Grace Kim
Hull makes a long-awaited return to the LPGA Tour and first start since the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G. Hull was tied for 12th in Malaysia in her last appearance in 2024. Yoshida is the most recent winner on the LPGA Tour, earning her maiden title on Sunday at the BMW Ladies Championship. Yoshida was tied for 42nd last season in Malaysia. Kim rounds out this group and is making her fourth appearance in Malaysia where she was tied for 16th in 2025.
