Hyo Joo Kim of the Republic of Korea moved from a tie for 15th into a tie for seventh on Saturday, shooting a 5-under 67 in the third round of the BMW Ladies Championship at Pine Beach Golf Links in Haenam-gun.

At 11-under 205, Kim is six strokes behind leader Haeran Ryu (17-under 199) with 18 holes to play.

The strong showing came in Kim’s home country, where six players from the Republic of Korea, Kim included, currently sit in the top 10.

Kim opened with a par on the par-4 first hole, then birdied the par-5 second and par-3 third to reach 8-under. She added birdies at the par-5 sixth and par-4 ninth to turn in 4-under 32 and 10-under overall.

The back nine was less tidy. A bogey at the par-4 11th dropped her to 9-under, and she recovered with a birdie at the par-3 13th. Another bogey at the par-3 15th pushed her back to 9-under again, but Kim answered immediately with birdies at the par-4 16th and par-5 17th to reach 11-under. She parred the 18th to finish with a 35 on the back nine.

Kim made seven birdies, two bogeys and hit 13 of 14 fairways while averaging 237.0 yards off the tee. She found 15 of 18 greens in regulation and needed 28 putts.

“I was able to hole a lot more putts, and with less wind, I felt like I could play a little more comfortably,” said Kim.

The 31-year-old has nine career LPGA Tour victories, including the 2014 Evian Championship, her lone major championship. She has won twice this season, back-to-back at the Fortinet Founders Cup and the Ford Championship presented by Wild Horse Pass, and has six top-10 finishes in 16 starts, making 13 cuts. Kim ranks fifth on the LPGA Tour in strokes gained total at +2.07 per round.

Rain is in the forecast for the final round, and Kim said she will stick to the plan that worked Saturday.
