A second-round 73 kept Liyana Durisic firmly established as the leading Malaysian at the Maybank Championship, following up on her strong Thursday 67 at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club.
Making her third career start in the LPGA Tour event, Durisic shrugged off the early mistake to move into solid position ahead of a crucial stretch in her professional career. She previously recorded a best finish of T72 at KLGCC in 2025.
"I had a bogey start, which I didn't think anything of, and then I just played really well and made some putts," Durisic said. "Throughout the round, I wasn't hitting the ball as well as I did yesterday, which is fine. I was just focusing on missing it in the right spots."
She added, "I had one bad hole with a double, but other than that, the rest were just minor mistakes. I still have a chance for two more solid days, and I'm pretty happy with the way I played today."
Looking ahead to the weekend, Durisic remains optimistic. "Still a lot more golf to be played, and I think it's looking good for the next two days," she said.
Durisic earned her spot in the Maybank Championship by claiming one of five exemptions awarded through the two-day ASEAN Qualifier, which features top players from 11 ASEAN nations.
Next week Durisic heads to Venice, Florida for the 72-hole Qualifying Stage at Plantation Golf and Country Club set for Tuesday through Friday, Nov. 3–6, 2026, with the top 55 players and ties advancing later in November to Final Qualifying.
Joining Durisic in the spotlight for Malaysian golf is Epson Tour graduate Mirabel Ting, who is also competing at KLGCC this week before heading to Florida. Ting turned in a stellar 4-under 68 of her own on Friday to bounce back into red numbers following an opening 75.
Ting arrives in Kuala Lumpur following a historic campaign on the Epson Tour, where she swept both Player of the Year and Gaelle Truet Rookie of the Year honors. The former Florida State star finished No. 1 in the Race for the Card standings after recording two victories—at the Smoky Mountain Championship and the Dream First Bank Charity Classic—and racking up 12 top-10 finishes.
That dominance hasn't gone unnoticed by her peers. "She was the only player that won twice on the Epson Tour, she is just getting all Top 10s, and she bombs it down the fairway. She has no fear, absolutely no fear when it comes to playing golf," said Durisic. " I'm going to Stage II after this, and she was just telling me everything about the course is easy.”
For Durisic, watching Ting's rise has been just as inspiring as it has been humbling.
"She was coming from a place with such confidence that it was so admirable to listen to and to just watch her be in her element. And the fact that she thinks I could also do it too is very wholesome, so that means I just have to go into myself just as much as she believes in me.
"Winning twice on the Epson Tour, taking the No. 1 spot, and securing her card—only GOATs do that, so...", Durisic added.
Ting has already clinched her LPGA Tour membership for 2027 with her strong finish on the Epson Tour.
