The LPGA Qualifying Series' Qualifying Stage wrapped up Friday at Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Fla., where 198 athletes played across the Bobcat and Panther Courses. The top 55 and ties are now eligible to advance to the Final Qualifying Stage of LPGA Q-Series in Mobile, Ala., beginning November 19.
Mexico's Maria Fassi completed a steady climb up the leaderboard, following her opening 3-over 75 with rounds of 67, 66 and 67 to finish at 13-under 275 and share medalist honors. Fassi started the final round five shots back of 54-hole leader Wenbo Liu and closed with a 5-under 67 on the Bobcat Course.
“It's great to win this week, but it's really more about getting your game in a good spot, limiting mistakes and staying in the tournament,” Fassi said earlier in the week.
LPGA Tour member Juniper Jang broke par in all four rounds, posting a 2-under 70 on Friday to join Fassi at 13-under. Jang said a three-putt on her final hole kept her from the outright win.
“I'm kind of frustrated that I three-putted the last hole, because I was being greedy and wasn't considering the speed. But I'm happy about it overall, and I'm going to prepare for the final stage,” said Jang.
Jang said managing the wind and two different courses was her focus all week. “I was trying to be more focused on each shot. That was my goal, and I think I did a pretty good job, so I'm happy about it.”
Liu, who led after 54 holes, signed for an even-par 72 to finish alone in third at 12-under 276.
Gigi Stoll posted the round of the day, a 9-under 63 that included an eagle on No. 16, the same hole where she holed out in the second round. Stoll finished the tournament at 9-under par in a tie for eighth place.
The top 55 and ties advanced to the LPGA Q-Series Final Qualifying Stage at 1-under par total for the tournament. To view the full leaderboard, click
