Nataliya Guseva experienced a spectacular moment during Saturday’s second round of the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G, carding her first career hole-in-one on the LPGA Tour.
The 23-year-old aced the par-3 15th hole at Pinnacle Country Club using a 9-iron from 137 yards. The jarred shot highlighted an eventful, up-and-down round of 3-under 68.
"Oh, my God. It's crazy," Guseva said after her round. "I feel like my whole day was such a roller coaster because I started off with two birdies and two bogeys. I was like, come on, I just need some momentum going here."
"I feel like whenever I came to the 15th hole, I just grabbed my 9-iron, just a stock 9-iron," Guseva explained. "Just the line was great. Just spun back and went in and I was just screaming."
Guseva’s second round featured five birdies, four bogeys, and her hole-in-one on No. 15. She hit 7 of 13 fairways and 13 of 18 greens in regulation, needing 28 putts to finish the day.
Guseva has made 12 cuts in 20 starts this season. While she is still seeking her first top-10 finish this season, she has recorded eight top-25 results, with a season-best finish of tied for 11th at the CPKC Women's Open in August.
Beyond boosting her position on the leaderboard, Guseva’s ace triggered a $20,000 donation made on her behalf to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital by CME Group through the CME Group Cares Challenge – Score 1 for St. Jude.
The season long charitable initiative converts holes-in-one on the LPGA Tour into funding for childhood cancer treatment and research. Guseva’s ace marks the 17th donation to St. Jude this season, bringing the total raised to $340,000.
