Ruoning Yin fired a bogey-free 5-under 67 in the third round of the Buick LPGA Shanghai on Saturday, moving within two strokes of leader Hye-Jin Choi as she positions herself for a potential back-to-back victory.
Yin, who won her previous start at the FM Championship, sits in third place at 7-under 209 (68-74-67) heading into Sunday's final round.
"I think my ball striking is pretty good," Yin said following her third round. "Even though I missed six greens, my scramble saved me."
Despite windier conditions, Yin took advantage of shorter course setups, carding five birdies during a round that required just 26 putts. She hit 10 of 14 fairways, reached 13 of 18 greens in regulation, and went 1-for-1 on sand saves.
Playing in front of an enthusiastic home crowd, Yin drew large galleries throughout the day.
"It's amazing, especially today a weekend," Yin said. "A lot of kids came out and the crowd is getting bigger I think the back nine. Just amazing play in front of all of the fans, and I hope tomorrow I can put on a show."
A victory on Sunday would make her the seventh player with multiple titles in the 2026 LPGA Tour season, joining Nelly Korda, Hyo Joo Kim, Hannah Green, Jeeno Thitikul, Haeran Ryu, and Miyu Yamashita. It would also mark her seventh career LPGA Tour title, bringing her within three wins of Shanshan Feng's record for the most by a player from the People's Republic of China.
Additionally, a win would join her with Danielle Kang as the only multi-time champions of the Buick LPGA Shanghai and push her official season earnings past $3 million.
