Yan Liu carded a final-round 68 on Sunday at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club’s West Course to finish runner-up at the Maybank Championship, marking the best finish of her LPGA Tour career.
The 28-year-old finished the tournament at 20-under par with consistent rounds of 69, 68, 63 and 68 for a total of 268. Her 72-hole aggregate set a new personal low on the LPGA Tour by one stroke.
"I feel I play very good golf today," Liu said after the round. "I pretty focus on my game. I think I do a pretty good job. I'm proud of myself."
Playing in the final group for the first time on Tour, Liu recorded three birdies, an eagle on the par-5 No. 5 hole, and a single bogey. She hit 9 of 14 fairways and reached 14 of 18 greens in regulation, needing 30 putts.
The runner-up finish eclipses Liu's previous career-best performance, a tie for third at the 2026 Meijer LPGA Tour for Simply Give. With the result, Liu has now made 17 cuts in 22 starts this season, collecting four top-10 finishes.
"It means more confidence definitely," Liu said of her milestone finish. "This is first time in final group. I think it's the first time, I did pretty good. Still under par, so I'm pretty happy."
Reflecting on how she managed the closing pressure, Liu pointed to preparation. "Just I think practice will help you under pressure," she said. "I work hard. Yeah, definitely. I think another thing is confidence. Because you practice a lot, so never doubt."
