Facing tough, windy conditions at Sheshan Golf Club, major champions Grace Kim and Amy Yang pushed through a demanding second round to share second place at the Buick LPGA Shanghai.

Kim fought through the wind to post an even-par 72, staying firmly in contention at 4-under par alongside Yang, who carded a 1-under 71.

Kim established early momentum with a birdie on the second hole before conceding shots with bogeys on the par-4 fifth and par-4 11th holes. She bounced back at No. 15, erasing the mistake by holing out from the bunker for a birdie. Through 36 holes, Kim needed just 52 putts, tying her for the third-fewest in the tournament field.

The layout at Sheshan Golf Club played like a major championship venue as picking wind gusts disrupted momentum and tested patience throughout the day.

"I think knowing this is the beast of a golf course, and with the wind picking up today, like I just had to play as most patient as possible," Kim said. "You know, we had a bit of gusts here and there and a few waits as well, so I feel like the momentum kind of kept getting stopped."

Kim added that navigating the delays required mental focus: "Knowing that, I mean, nothing new. We've done that before. Yeah, just I guess made sure I snacked here and there and switched on and off properly."

While low scores were frequent in the opening round, conditions proved far stiffer during Round 2.

"I think the wind picking up definitely made a huge difference," Kim said. "You know, a couple of tees were up today, but the long holes — the holes that were already long made it even longer with the wind strength. So having 3-wood into 18, I've never been so nervous I think this week. So things like that. I think make sure that you really try to stay in it and stay present."

For Kim, who has made 13 cuts in 17 starts in 2026, including top-10 finishes at the LOTTE Championship presented by Hoakalei and the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give, the round underscored the mental grind needed to contend at the top level.

Yang echoed the sentiment after battling her way into a tie for second. The 2024 KPMG Women's PGA Championship winner, who has recorded 11 cuts made across 16 starts on the LPGA Tour season, noted the crucial focus required in harsh conditions: "Tough conditions out there today. Just kind of had to mentally stay in it".

Yang delivered one of the standard-setting performances of the day despite the conditions. She recorded four birdies and three bogeys to become one of only six players in the field to shoot under par in Round 2. Furthermore, Yang stood out as the only player inside the top eight to post an under-par score in the second round, as well as the only golfer in the entire field to shoot under par in both opening rounds.

Both major champions now head into the weekend positioned just off the lead, well-equipped to navigate the demanding test at Sheshan Golf Club.
