World No. 8 Charley Hull and major champions Morgan Pressel, Paula Creamer, and Patty Tavatanakit joined community, business, LPGA, and Corning leaders at Corning Country Club to mark the tournament's highly anticipated launch in May 2027.
Leading LPGA stars gathered today at Corning Country Club to officially launch a new chapter of The Classic, marking the LPGA's first tournament in Corning, N.Y., since 2009. Presented by
(NYSE: GLW), the event will be held May 27–30, 2027, with a $5 million purse and a renewed commitment to the LPGA’s legacy in the Southern Tier.
America’s Morgan Pressel, a major winner, two-time LPGA Tour champion, six-time U.S. Solheim Cup player, and now, a leading broadcaster, hosted a panel discussion at Corning Country Club that featured Lewis Steverson, Vice Chairman, Executive Vice President and Chief Legal & Administrative Officer at Corning and the LPGA Commissioner Craig Kessler.
Joining Steverson and Kessler on stage were three of golf's leading players and personalities, eager to share their excitement about the LPGA's return to Corning with community leaders, business executives, and media. Paula Creamer, a 10-time LPGA Tour winner, 2010 U.S. Women's Open champion, and seven-time U.S. Solheim Cup player; England's Charley Hull, a three-time LPGA Tour winner and eight-time European Solheim Cup player; and Thailand's Patty Tavatanakit, a major champion and two-time LPGA Tour winner, all participated in the discussion.
Lewis Steverson, Vice Chairman, Executive Vice President and Chief Legal & Administrative Officer at Corning, said: "Today marks an exciting milestone as we welcome some of the LPGA's top players back to Corning in celebration of The Classic. Pressel and Creamer returned to Corning having both competed in the LPGA Corning Classic during the tournament's previous run, which Corning sponsored for 31 years. Hull and Tavatanakit were introduced to the community for the first time as anticipation continues to build ahead of The Classic's debut in 2027.
In addition to the panel session, the players visited the Corning Museum of Glass, hosted a junior clinic, and spent time with one of Corning's most promising junior golfers, Delaney Abel.
LPGA Commissioner Craig Kessler added: “The excitement from the Corning community has been impossible to miss. This tournament means a lot to the community here, and we're grateful to Lewis Steverson and everyone at Corning for helping bring it back. Corning has a proud place in LPGA history, and we're excited to write the next chapter together. The support we've already seen gives me great confidence that this will quickly become a favorite stop for our players and one that the community takes pride in for years to come. We can't wait to be back next May.”
Creamer, who served as a Vice Captain for the 2026 U.S. Solheim Cup Team in the Netherlands earlier this month, added: "Returning to Corning brings back so many special memories for me and I am so happy that the current generation of players will get to play here for many years to come. I have had some time off competing due to injury, but I am hoping to get back out on Tour soon so I too can compete at The Classic. I believe it will quickly establish itself as one of our favorite stops on Tour."
The last LPGA tournament in Corning was played in May 2009 and won by Yani Tseng. The total purse was $1.5 million.
